For a long time, autism and ADHD have been talked about as disorders or deficits, as if something is wrong or broken. When we grow up hearing this, it can shape the story we tell ourselves. We might start to believe we need fixing.
But what if there is another way to see it?
Instead of a deficit model, we can choose a difference model. This means understanding that our brains work differently, not wrongly. When we get curious about how we think, feel and learn, we can begin to ask, “What do I need to thrive?” instead of, “How do I fix myself?”
The words we use matter. When we shift the story, we shift what becomes possible.
Sometimes we can shift the story by ourselves, and sometimes working with a coach can help us shift the story. If you would like to explore this further or book a call with me, you can contact me here.
